Happy day. Dateline Lovecraft #1 just got reviewed over on Rolling Boxcars: https://rollingboxcars.com/2019/10/16/extra-extra-dateline-lovecraft-issue-1/
This is a pretty detailed break-down of what Dateline: Lovecraft is all about and how it can be used in any Lovecraftian Investigative game. So if you’ve been curious about “that crazy newspaper prop thing Dean is always banging on about on the blog,” the review might shed some light
One thing that the review mentions several times is our idea of Dateline as a “Self-Perpetuating Product Line” — that is, one which recycles its profits into commissioning new freebie add-ons to enhance the core product. To date, sales of both the PDF and physical versions of Dateline have earned us enough to create three free scenario add-ons (you can get them all on the Dateline Downloads page). Thanks to some good initial sales of the physical packs on the HPLHS webstore we’ve just confirmed we will shortly be releasing a fourth. In anticipation of this day arriving, we have already approached a writer and they are already close to completing the manuscript for this new supplement.
There are also less-detailed plans for the fifth and sixth releases in the pipeline, but obviously Dateline will need to sell some more copies before those become a reality. We really do hope to be able to publish these, since both revolve around coded messages hidden in the newspaper prop. Oh did we not mention there are coded messages? Well, there are: two in fact. Amateur cryptanalysists start your engines!
Also: as a reminder, you can always nudge the funding along for future Dateline supplements by either entering a non-zero amount when buying the “Pay-What-You-Want” products on DriveThruRpg *or* via our special Dateline tip-jar (which uses PayPal to securely send us your donations).
