We are very pleased to announce that Cthulhu Reborn (or me at least, representing CR) will be making the long trek from red-lit Yoth to attend NecronomiCon in Providence. I’ll be loitering around the con venues for the whole time that things are running, trying to meet and greet as many Lovecraft RPG Gaming folks as I can. That includes hanging out with the WeirdWorks folks and a few other similarly-minded groups of game-creator-types.
To celebrate the fact that we’ll be at NecronomiCon, we’ve also commissioned the creation of a small extra batch of printed Dateline: Lovecraft combo packs. These will bear the “special edition” sticker shown above, but are otherwise identical to those that many folks around the world purchased — and hopefully used to scare their players — early this year. If you happen to be going to the convention and missed out on buying one of the last batch of packs, I will be bringing the special edition kits with me … meaning you can potentially nab one without having to pay the (not insubstantial) cost of shipping. If this interests you, drop me a note via the fill-in form at the bottom of this section.
I will probably also have some Convicts & Cthulhu printed books with me as well … and maybe even one or two copies of other books we’ve printed over the years.
In addition to being doubtless overwhelmed by the many, MANY cool things to do at NecronomiCon I will also be aiming to run a couple of games as well. Ideally I’d like to run an introductory Convicts & Cthulhu game and also a Dateline: Lovecraft game.
If you are going to NecronomiCon, please try to track me down — I would really love to chat with as many Cthulhu Reborn readers as I can. We really appreciate our supporters, mainly because they all seem like such awesome and discerning gamers 🙂
Let Us Know If You Want To Pick Up Stuff at NecronomiCon:
In other news … we are hard at work on putting together this month’s Convicts & Cthulhu release, a return to the “Tickets of Leave” format that we haven’t done for a few months. This particular scenario-based release will focus on the rough-and-tumble life of sealers and whalers in the C&C era, and some of the rather frightening things that they might encounter at sea. The adventure is written by Matthew Ruane, who will also be running two sessions of the game at GenCon in early August. Both of those are, I believe, already sold out — but Matthew tells me that sometimes there are no-shows at GenCon game sessions, so if you are keen enough to track him down you could be rewarded with a great gaming experience (and also the chance to participate in Cthulhu Reborn’s “official” scenario at GenCon :)).
In addition to the July release of Matthew’s excellent scenario, we are also part-way through the development of another “Ticket of Leave” for possible release in late September or October. That supplement is planned to explore the role of music in the penal colonies.
We are also doing some early work on some more free PDF supplements to Dateline: Lovecraft. As we promised at the outset, we are committed to using all profits we make from the sale of the core Dateline product (as well as any kind PWYW payments for supplements) to make new scenarios. To that end we’ve sketched out the ideas for two linked scenarios which will explore the different coded messages hidden in the newspaper prop — oh, did we not mention before that there are coded messages? Well there are!
In addition to those early plans, we are working with a brand new Cthulhu Reborn writer who pitched us a great proposal to write a short scenario which explores some of the odd details reported in the Arkham Advertiser about the township of Bolton, not far from Arkham. This scenario is partially written already and looks like it will be a really fun adventure, set mostly in the industrial and factory dreariness of Bolton.
Of course we will only be able to afford to publish those scenarios as income from the Dateline product line permits … but there has been a steady (albeit slow) sales of those products over on DTRPG. So we’re hopeful that all of these great scenario ideas will reach the light of day … even if not in the immediate future. On the other hand, if sales of Dateline suddenly goes gangbusters then our forward planning will pay off with a bunch of scenarios ready to go!
